这两个修饰语是同义，都作“许多”讲，相当于 a great many 或 a great deal 的意思，只是 heaps of 多少含有“偶然”的意思，所以不一定完全通用（参见词条 P.592 ）。
例如：
lots of trouble ； lots of money ； etc.
heaps of food ； heaps of good times ； etc.
There were lots of people. 有许多人。（不说… heaps ofpeople ）
There were lots of misery. 有许多苦处。（不说… heapsof misery ）
