1a. 用作系动词，这两个动词是同义，都作“变得”或“变为”讲，但不能通用：前者是个中性词，褒贬互见（参见词目 147 、 148 和 149 ）；后者只能用作贬义。
例如：
George has become quite a different man. 乔治变成另一个人了。（变好变坏不一定）
George has turned quite a different man. 乔治变成另一个人了。（变坏了）
1b. 同前者不一样，后者的主语即使是复数，那个作表语的名词也总是单数。
比较：
Both brothers have become traitors to their motherland.
兄弟俩都成了祖国的叛徒。（主语是复数，表语也是复数）
Both brothers have turned traitor to their motherland. 兄弟俩都成了祖国的叛徒。（主语是复数，表语则是单数）。
