happen ： occur — 419
这两个动词几乎是同义，都作“发生”讲，但前者多少含有“突如其来”的义蕴（参见词目 420 ），而后者则没有这个含意。
例如：
If anything happens to him, let me know. 他如发生什么事，通知我一声。
A bad accident happened to that family. 他们家发生了一件不幸的事故。
His birthday occurs on 15th October. 他的生日是 10 月 15 日。
The word “ gratitude ” did not occur in Napoleon's personal dictionary. “感激”二字在拿破伦的私人词典里是查不到的。
比较：
No one thought that such a catastrophe as has occurred would happen. 谁也没有想到会发生这次这样的灾难。
