in order to 这个引导语和 in order that 这个复合连词同义，都作“为了”或“以便”讲，但前者既可放在句首又可放在句未来引导不定式短语，而后者只能放在主句之后连接从句，而且又需加用 may/might 或 shall/should （注：前者又可与 so as to 通用，只是较为正式，而且多半放在句末）。
比较：
In order to keep the insects out she shut the window. 为了不使虫子进来，她把窗户关上。
She shut the window in order to keep the insects out. 她把窗门关上，勿使虫子进来。
She shut the window in order that she might keep the insects out. 她把窗户关上不让虫子进来。
