Around has the same meaning as 'round', when 'round' is used as a preposition or an adverb. Around is more common in American English than in British English.
She was wearing a scarf round her head.
He had a towel wrapped around his head.
The earth moves round the sun.

You can also use around instead of 'round' as the second part of some phrasal verbs.
