Huge budget deficits were partly to blame for the high levels of interest rates. ◊ 'fault' You do not say that something is someone's 'blame'. You say that it is their fault. It's not my fault. This was all Jack's fault. It's all the fault of a girl called Sarah. ◊ 'at fault' If someone is at fault, they have made a mistake which has undesirable consequences. We failed to explain that to the public and we are at fault in that. Note that you do not say that someone is 'in fault'. |
