If you remain in your house rather than going out somewhere, British speakers say that you stay at home. American speakers say that you stay home.
Oh, we'll just have to stay at home for the weekend.

'the home' and 'a home'


You use the home or a home when you are talking about homes in general.
Their view of women is that their place is in the home.
A home should be as clean as you can get it.

You also use a home when you are describing a situation in which someone does not have a place of their own where they can live.
I want a home and children.
I had never had a home of my own.

You use 'a' with an adjective to talk about a particular kind of home. For example, you can say 'She has a pleasant home'.
...a happy home.
He has a nice home in Bradford.
