let : granting that — 519 后者这个复合连词是作“假如”或“倘若”讲,跟 assuming ( that )和 supposing ( that )同义,都是指一般人,所以要用于人称结构,通常总是以 we 、 you 、 one 作主语。如果主语是第三人称,就得用 let 这个动词来表达(参见词目 520 )。 例如: Granting that you are a traveller, an inn-keeper is boundto receive you at any hour of day. 假如你是一位旅客,那末不论什么时候,客店老板总会接待你住宿。(主语是 you ) Granting that it is so, what follows? 假若如此的话,事情又会怎样呢?( =If we grant that it is so ,…) 比较: Granting that it is so, what follows? 假若如此的话,事情又会怎样呢?
