If you are accustomed to something, you have become familiar with it and you no longer find it strange. Accustomed to usually comes after verbs such as 'be', 'become', 'get', or 'grow'.

Note that you do not say that someone is 'accustomed with' something.


'used to'


In conversation, you do not usually say that someone is 'accustomed to' something. You say that they are used to it. Used to usually comes after 'be' or 'get'.
Pilots are used to the mid-afternoon switch from one runway to the other.
I was beginning to get used to the old iron bed.

You can say that someone is accustomed to doing something or used to doing something.
The bank president is accustomed to working in the Elysée Palace.
We are used to queueing.

You do not say that someone is 'accustomed to do' something or 'used to do' something.

If you accustom yourself to something different, you accept it and become familiar with it.
He sat very still, trying to accustom himself to the darkness.
