If you want to say that something that happened in the past does not happen now, you say that it does not happen any more. You can also say that something is not the case any more. Any more usually comes at the end of a clause.
There was no noise any more.
He can't hurt us any more.
People just do not care any more.

Note that you do not say that something does not happen 'no more'.

'no longer'


Instead of saying that something 'does not happen any more', you can say that it no longer happens. This is a fairly formal use. You put no longer in front of the verb, unless the verb is 'be'.

If the verb is 'be', you put no longer after it.
She was no longer cross with Tusker.

If you use a modal, you put no longer between the modal and the main verb.
They can no longer gather food for themselves.
Ralph could no longer make himself heard.

In writing, no longer is sometimes put at the beginning of a clause, followed by an auxiliary or modal or 'be', and then the subject.
No longer were they isolated from each other.
No longer can boys and girls pick up their skills from their mothers and fathers.

You do not use no longer like this in conversation.


'any longer'
