　在美国口语中， tight还可用作名词，意思是“困难的处境”。例如：

 ♣ sit tight
　〈非正〉留在原处等候；坚持自己的立场 stay where one is; keep to one's own opinions, ideas, etc.

　They sat tight in the reed while the enemy troops searched for them.　敌军部队搜索他们时，他们一直藏在芦苇丛中不动。
　Instead of questioning the witness, our lawyer decided to sit tight and let the defense first present his case.　我们的律师并未询问证人，决定按兵不动，而让被告先陈述自己的情况和理由。

 ♣ tight, tightly
　这两个词都可作副词用。其区别在于：
1. tight除可用作副词外，还可用作形容词；tightly只能作副词用。例如：
　She clung tightly to her few remaining possessions.　她紧紧抓住她仅有的一些财物不肯放手。
2. tight使用范围较广；tightly常用在助动词与过去分词之间。例如：
　The stands were tightly packed for the important match.　看台上观众满座，观看这场重要的比赛。
3. tight的比较级和最高级为tighter和tightest；而tightly的比较级和最高级是more tightly和most tightly. 例如：
　Tie the string more tightly on that parcel or it may come undone.　把这包裹上的绳子捆得更牢些，否则会散包的。
