　这两个短语都作“在任何意义上”解。其区别是：前者无需搭用of the word，而后者则可以搭用。试比较：

　这三个短语共同的意思是“常识”。其区别是：common sense和common knowledge两个词共同的是common，即大家同有的，而非一人独有，其区别是common sense意为通过直觉经验而不是通过研究而获得的，而common knowledge则是通过研究而不是仅凭经验而认识。common knowledge和general knowledge共同的是knowledge，即通过研究而获得的认识，其区别是common knowledge强调“大家皆有而非个人独有”，而general knowledge则强调是普通常识，而非专业知识。例如：

　这组词都有“感觉”“感情”“情绪”的意思。其区别是：
1. 这组词都可指机体受到外界刺激后从身体到精神的反应；sensation常指身体的反应，尤其是感官如眼睛、神经等对外界刺激的反应，一般较轻微，常译为“感知”， feeling较强，一般译为“感觉”“感情”， emotion更强，表现为喜怒哀乐，一般译为激动；passion最强烈，往往使人失去思维的能力，且使人不能自制。例如：
　Fire gives a sensation of warmth.　火给人以温暖的感觉。
　I don't like to hurt his feeling.　我不愿意伤害他的感情。
　She lost her reason in consequence of a violent emotion caused by a fire.　她因失火而过分伤心，以致失去理智。
　Our moral sense controls passion.　我们的道德观念控制着激情。
2. feeling是这组词中最常用的，可泛指一般的情绪；sense多指身体上五官的感觉；sensation还可指轰动一时的事件或人物。例如：
　He had some feeling for hope.　他怀有希望的心情。
　The new invention has created a great sensation.　这项新发明引起了很大的轰动。
 ♣ sense, implication, meaning, significance

 ♣ sense, sensibility
　这两个词都表示“感觉或知觉的能力或活动”。但侧重点不同：sense主要指用来表示对外来刺激或影响在“感觉”上的反应；sensibility主要指情感或感觉能力。例如：
　He has a sense of well-being.　他有一种幸福感。
　He has no sensibility to pain.　他对痛苦没有感觉。

　［析］ sense可接动词不定式作定语，不接"of+v-ing”。
2. 重做这个实验没有意义。

　［析］ there is no sense in v-ing的意思是“做某事没有意思的”，是固定搭配， in v-ing不可改为不定式。
3. 他的话有些道理。

　这是没有道理的。
　［误］ There is no sense in it.
　［正］ There is no sense to it.
　［析］ 在此类句式中，介词to含有“远离的”的意思， in含有“接近”的意思，因此，当表示“某事没有道理时”，用介词to比in好，反之亦然。
