| 释义 | 1．desire（名词）后面通常接不定式，偶尔接 of 或 for 和动名词，如 a（或 the，或 his 等）desire to go 比 a（或 the，或 his 等）desire of（或for）going 普通。 2．desire（动词）后面接不定式，不接动名词，如 I desire to go 里的 to go 不可改作 going。 3．desire（动词）后面接指人的词和不定式通常作“（严正地）请求”解，偶尔作“愿望”解。例如：I desire（请求）you to go at once. 和 I desire（愿望）you to succeed. desire 作“（严正地）请求”解是比较正式的词，不及 ask 或 request 普通。有时后面接以 that 引导的从句，那从句里通常用 should 或虚拟现在式。例如：I desire that he should call on me on Monday morning. 和 I desire that he call（不用calls）on me on Monday morning. 那从句里也有用 may 或 might，will 或 would 的。例如： I desire that he may go at once. I desired that he might go at once. He desires that I will go at once. He desired that I would go at once. I desire that you will go at once 有“我命令你”的意思。 4．说“为了……的请求”在 desire 前面用 at 或 by 都可以。例如：Mr Morgan called on Mr Marley at（或by）Mr Franklin's desire．和At（或By）the desire of Mrs Taylor, I have to inform you that her daughter is ill. 5．They desire a meeting called（他们希望召开一次会议）是美国英语，在英国在 called 前面加上 to be。 |
