| 释义 | 1．far 和 by far 略有不同，下面几点该注意： （1）far 用在属于比较级或最高级的词前面都可以，如 This is far better than that 和 This is far the best of the five。 （2）by far 可以用在属于最高级的词前面，不可用在属于比较级的词前面，如可以说 This is by far the best of the five，不可说 This is by far better than that。但用了 the 便可以把 by far 用在前面。例如：This is by far the better of the two. （3）by far 可以用在属于比较级的词后面。例如：This is better by far than that. 但这种用法不很普通。 2．far from 作“极不”解，如 This is far from perfect 和 I am far from considering it perfect。注意第一句里在 far from 后面直接接形容词 perfect，在那形容词前面加上 being 也可以，但不很普通。 3．下面三句意思相同： She is so far from liking the man that she intends never to see him again. Far from liking the man, she intends never to see him again. So far from liking him, she intends never to see him again. 第三句原来是从第一句和第二句混合而来。 4．so far as, as far as 和 in so far as 的意思相同，可以换用。例如：So far as（或As far as，或In so far as）I can see, they are all satisfied with the arrangement. 但 in so far as 比较不普通。 5．注意在 He went as far as Tibet 等句子里在第二个 as 后面没有 to。在 far 后面加上 afield 或 west 也可以，但在 as 后面也不该有 to。同样地，as far back as the fifteenth century 等表达方式里在第二个 as 后面没有 in。 6．How far did he go？是疑问句，He did not go far 是否定句。He went far 很不自然，最好改作 He went a long way。 |
