| 释义 | disinformation There has been some comment about the relatively recent (1939) word disinformation. It is not an error for misinformation, as has been alleged, nor is it a euphemism for propaganda. It means "false information deliberately and often covertly spread." It seems to be used chiefly in the spy business, or, as the current phrase goes, the intelligence-gathering services. Its use has spread to other fields upon occasion. Robert Kirk Mueller (Buzzwords, 1974) mentions its occasional use in the business world; our most recent evidence from this sector indicates that it turns up in the mysterious surrounds of hostile corporate takeovers. We have also found it in reference to an ordinary criminal case and to domestic politics: • Much of what Brill told Spear was what the police wanted Spear to hear. Indeed, some of it was untrue—"disinformation." —Timothy Dwyer et al., Boston Globe Mag, 13 Apr. 1980 • The press, looking at government, sees a colossus, rich in resources for evasion, disinformation, even intimidation —Hedley Donovan, Fortune, 29 Dec. 1980 One of the more interesting facts about this word is that several of its earliest appearances are as translations of the titles of functioning groups within foreign governments: • ...
