释义 | analysis The phrase in the final (or last or ultimate) analysis is disparaged by a few commentators—Flesch 1964 calls it "beloved by pompous writers," Gowers in Fowler 1965 "a popularized technicality," Strunk & White 1959 "a bankrupt expression," and Nickles 1974 a cliché. It seems not to bother anyone else. The OED Supplement shows the original form to have been in the ultimate analysis, which it dates back to 1791.
