说明：用so that表示目的，单独that不行(P.406)。”但是，我却读到过这样的句子：She did it that he might go free.(MED)这不是表明that可以引出目的状语从句吗?

【答】 说that绝对不能引出目的状语从句，是不准确的。但是that引出目的状语从句，显得异常正式，因此用得比较少。但也不是绝无仅有：

1. I tell you this that you may not shrink from the responsibility. (Yeats)

我把这事告诉你，让你不要推卸责任。

2. Bring it closer that I may see it better.(LDCE)

把它拿近一些，好让我看清楚点。

3. They have died that liberty might live.

他们死了，为的是自由能够存在。
