■ try

1) 遇到要说 try to inf. 的时候，如果 try 保持动词原形（不能有任何变化，哪怕是第三人称单数加了个 s），则通常不说 try to inf.，而说 try and inf。

• Try and eat(= try to eat) something—you'll feel better if you do.想办法吃点东西，吃点东西你会舒服点的。
• I'd like to try and pose (= try to pose) here, on television, a certain number of questions about television. (Pierre Bourdieu, On Television)我打算在这里的电视上提出一些有关电视的问题。

但是 try 和另一动词必须保持原形，例如可以说：Try and do it. 试试这样做。I'll try and do it. 我要试试这样做。He did try and make the best of it. 他的确试着尽量做好。但是不能说：*if he tries and does it，或是 *He tried and did it。如果 try 的形式发生了变化，就仍旧使用 try to inf.。

• I tried to eat something.我想办法吃了点东西。

2) try to inf. 和 try + -ing 在意义和用法上有细微的差别。前者以 inf. 动词本身为目的，着重这个动词的“试行动作”及其本身结果（成功或不成功）；后者则另有目的，-ing 动词本身动作及其结果只是为这个目的服务的一个手段（而且通常本身是成功不成问题的），所着重的是这个手段对达到目的是否有用。

• Try turning the key the other way. It might work.钥匙反方向转转看，也许能行（turning the key the other way 是手段，try 的目的不是把钥匙反方向转，而是要使钥匙能开锁）。
• He tried to turn the key, but it was stuck.他试试看要转动钥匙，但是钥匙卡住了不能动（try 的目的就是转动钥匙）。
