1. 这两个连词一般可以通用，但遇到如下两种情况，则以使用后者为宜：第一，从句放在主句之前；第二，除了表达时间之外又能表达结果。
例如：
Until he was sixteen he had never been away from his native village. 直到 16 岁为止，他从来没有离开过本乡一步。
（例一）
Alf frittered all his money away until he had only a few pence left. 阿尔夫把钱花得光光，到末了只剩下几个便士。（例二）
2. 表达时间，前者是片刻的；而后者则是长久的。
例如：
The fruit will not ripen till it gets more sun. 不多晒太阳，果子不熟。
Don't do anything further, till you hear from me. 听到我回信，再干。
You must stay in bed until your temperature is normal. 体温恢复正常后，才能起床。
Margaret lived with her Auntie until she married. 结婚前，玛格丽一直同她姑妈住在一起。
