1a. 副词 most 加饰了不定冠词 a ，作“很”讲，相当于 very 的意思，它所修饰的形容词总是带有感情色彩的；加饰了定冠词 the ，便构成最高级形式了。
例如：
The meeting proceeded in a most friendly atmosphere.
会议是在极其友好的气氛中进行的。
Which is the most comfortable hotel in this town? 本市哪一家旅馆最讲究？
比较：
It is a most stupid thing to say. 谈起此事真是无聊。

1b. 对后者来说，如果 most 是用来构成另一个副词最高级形式来修饰动同， the 这个定冠词往往可以省去。
例如：
