For example, you can say 'the way she told the story', 'the way that she told the story', or 'the way in which she told the story'. There is no difference in meaning. It's the way they used to do it. ...the way that they would behave. ...the way in which we treat our juveniles. ◊ 'in the way' If someone or something is in the way or in your way, they are preventing you from moving freely or from seeing clearly. Get out of my way. ◊ 'on the way' If something happens to you during a journey, you do not say that it happens to you 'in the way' or 'in your way'. You say that it happens on the way or on your way.
