It can also be used as a greeting. ◊ used as a verb If you welcome someone, you greet them in a friendly way when they arrive at the place where you are. He moved eagerly towards the door to welcome his visitor. ◊ used as a noun If you want to describe the way in which someone is welcomed to a place, you can use welcome as a noun. For example, you can say that someone is given 'a warm welcome'. He was given a warm welcome by the President of Harvard himself. ...the tumultuous welcome he received there. ◊ used as an adjective If you are welcome in a place, the people there are glad that you have come. All members of the public are welcome. I was a welcome visitor in both camps. Note that the adjective is welcome, not 'welcomed'. You do not say, for example, 'I was a welcomed visitor in both camps'. If something is welcome, people are pleased to get it, or pleased that it happens.
