　这组词的共同意思是在数字上“接近”，其区别在于其所表达的与其后面数字之间的距离不同，简言之是：roughly>about, around>approximately. 在并不想或无法表达得很精确时用roughly，即“粗略，也许”；在不强调十分接近，即“大概，大约”时用about或around, around不如about正式，且常用于美式英语；approximately则指“十分接近，差不多就是”。

　这两个短语在语义上并没有什么区别，都表示最近的将来，即“正要”“刚要”。但be about应与带to的动词不定式连用，而be on the point of则须接动名词。

　这两个短语的共同意思是“将要做”，其区别是：
1. 在时间上，be going to所表示的时间要比be about to长。前者指最近的未来，后者指“马上”。
2. be going to多半包含一种企图、计划或者决心的意味；而be about to只是客观的描述而已。
3. 在含be about to的句子中不能用表示将来的时间状语，而be going to却可以。
