　这三个短语都可用于两者之间的比较，但含义各不相同。no better往往表示“两者都一样（不好）”; not better一般按字面意思来翻译，即“不比…好”; not any better则表示前者还不如后者，即“一点也不比…好”。试比较以下几个句子：

　“我的感冒好些了。”通常用I'm better.来表示，有时也有人用My cold is better.来表示，但不是地道的英语。

　〔说明〕 ①had better泛用于口语中，用于向人建议应当做什么，以避免引起问题、招致不快甚至危险。本短语表示的是“有义务做某事”，有时还用于下达命令或威胁，故须注意切勿用于表达“礼貌”。
　②had better后接动词原形，不接动词不定式或动名词。
　③had better后可接动词的完成式，表示对过去本该做而未做的事的遗憾。
　④had better的否定式是had better not，而非had not better. 在否定疑问句和反意疑问句中可将not与had连用。
　⑤had better常用于省略结构。

　We'd better stay indoors today.　我们今天还是呆在家里好。
　I don't think we'd better go in.　我认为咱们不该进去。

　better　有时可表示原级所没有的特殊意义。例如：
