 ♣ justify, warrant
　这组词都可以表示“为…提供情况或根据”。其区别是：justify指如果不加辩护就要受到非难，强调为其行为提供根据或理由；warrant指提供先例、经验或合乎逻辑的理由、根据来证明某事是有道理的。

1. 在美式英语里， be justified后面有时可跟不定式短语，作“有理由做某事”解。例如：
　Physicians are bound and morally justified to relieve suffering.　从职业道德上讲，医生应义不容辞地减轻患者的痛苦。
2. 在美式英语里，有时可以说justify...as...，表示“证明…作为某物是合法的”。例如：
　The playhouse was forced to justify itself as a serious cultural endeavor.　这个剧场被迫辩解自己是严肃的文化场所。
