 ♣ newspaper, gazette, journal, press
　这四个词的共同意思是“报纸”。其区别是：newspaper是“报纸”的普通用语。今天或昨天的报纸被普通称为today's newspaper或yesterday's newspaper; journal指定期刊物或报纸，尤指“杂志”; gazette指“官报”，尤指“政府公报”; press指“新闻界”“出版社”，是一国、一地或一都市的出版机构的总称。

　news, newsboy　等的news都读[njuːz]，但newspaper的s不浊化，大多读作[′njuːsˌpeɪpǝ]，这是由于受后面清辅音[p]的同化。
