词组 | know |
释义 | know Know belongs to a class of verbs most of which (like blow, fly, show) have at least some irregular forms in the past and past participle but a few of which (like flow) have only regular ones. In standard English know has only knew and known. Knowed, although old—the OED dates it back to the 14th century—is now found only in dialectal and uneducated speech. Knowed has been frequently used by fiction writers for their special purposes: • "I knowed it!" sighed Mrs. Davids —Francis Lee Pratt, "Captain Ben's Choice," in Mark Twain's Library of Humor, 1888 • Old Eagle had done already took off because he knowed where that old son of a gun would be laying as good as we did —William Faulkner, Saturday Evening Post, 5 Mar. 1955 |
