1) 作为可以测量大小的三维空间，space 是个不可数名词，用法同 water 差不多。

• There was just enough space for a bed and a table.只够放下一张床和一张桌子。
• There should be more space between the houses.房子之间的空地应该大些。
• A mirror can add space to a room.有面镜子，房间可以显得大些。

作为转义表示“余地”，也是不可数名词。

• Leave some space for dessert.留点肚子吃饭后甜食。

2) 作“宇宙太空”解时，space 的用法相当于一个专有名词（尽管不大写），既没有复数，也不能加冠词。

• The missile soared out the atmosphere into space.火箭冲出大气层，进入太空（注意 atmosphere 有 the，space 则没有）。

3) 作“空隙”、“空格”、“（容人或物的）位置”解时，space 则是个可数名词。

• He had spaces between his teeth.他的牙缝很宽。
• Leave two spaces after a full stop.句号后面空两格。
• Fill in the spaces with the answers.在空格里填入答案。
• We spent half an hour looking for a parking space.我们花了半个小时到处找停车位。
