■ possession

1) 这个词的搭配有点复杂。特别要注意的是 in possession of 是“（某人）占有（某物）”，而 in the possession of 则是“（某物）在（某人的）占有下”。

• Mac Donald has been in possession of the letter for some weeks.麦克唐纳手里掌握着那封信有好几个星期了。
• She wasn't in full possession of her faculties.她身心并不完全正常。
• The documents are in his possession.文件在他手里。
• The file is no longer in my possession.案卷已经不在我手里了。

球赛中掌握了球，英文是 to be in possession/to have possession (of the ball)，掌握着球的球员叫做 the player in possession. 以上是静态的“占有”。如果说动态的“从不占有到占有”的变化，也可以参考下列例句。
