- I'm always here if you want to talk (*speak).
- The two sides are ready to talk (*speak).
- They refused to talk(*speak) about sovereignty.
2) talks 甚至作为名词可以代替 negotiations(谈判)。 - When she walked into the room, everybody stopped talking.
- This is Professor So-and-so, who is going to speak to us on recent developments in low-temperature physics.
- This is Mr. Stevenson, who's going to talk to us about gardening.
- His throat operation has left him unable to speak (*to talk).
- She speaks three languages fluently.
- We spoke French so that the children wouldn't understand.
4) 在电话上同某人交谈,通常叫做 speak to somebody(美国英语也作 speak with somebody)。 - Hello. Could I speak to Karen, please?
- But it was, politically speaking (*talking), love at first sight.
- At this moment, strictly speaking (*talking), they had no business being there.
