1) 可以是名词，也可以是动词。同许多兼名词和动词的单词（如 produce, process, record, progress, project）不同，contact 作为名词和动词，重音位置都不变，都是在前一个音节。

2) 可以指物质意义的“接触”，也可以指信息来往的“联系”。

• Avoid contact with the skin.避免（该药物）接触皮肤。
• Bodily contact is not allowed in this sport.这个运动项目不允许身体接触。
• The plane's wheels made contact with ground.飞机轮子接触了地面。
• My contact with him is purely professional.我同他的联系纯属职业性质的。
• Be sure to make contact with our office.一定要同我们办公室联系上。

要注意：contact 作为动词，通常是及物动词。contact with somebody 中的 with 是多余的。

• As soon as we find out anything, we'll contact you.我们一发现什么东西，就会马上同你们联系。
• Dr. Edwards cannot be contacted.爱德华滋先生联系不上。

不过，contact 作为及物动词，主动取得联系的意义较强，如果这个意义较弱，也可以作为不及物动词，说 to contact with。

• Through discrete enquiries, staff determine if the birth parent would agree to contact with the adopted child.工作人员经过保密查询，明确了究竟生父母是否同意同被领养的孩子联系。

3) 但是如果指的是主体被动地受外界无形影响的“接触”，就不说 contact with，而说 exposure to（动词 to be exposed to）。

• occupational exposure to hazardous chemicals同有害化合物的职业接触
• daily exposure to journalese天天接触新闻腔
• Adolescents are likely to start smoking when exposed to smoking in movies.少年受到影片中吸烟的影响，容易开始吸烟。
• Students were exposed to a foreign language for two weeks.学生有两周时间同一门外语接触。
• Exposure to TV violence increases aggression.接触电视上的暴力镜头，会提高侵犯趋向。
