　这两个词都可以作“超出”解。其区别在于：above强调其本身凌驾于一般的标准之上；而beyond则偏重客观事物非本身力量所能达到或完成。

　这两个词都可表示方位，意指“在…的另一边”。其区别在于：across指“在…的对面”或“在…的另一边”；而beyond是指“在…较远的一边”。
 ♣ beyond, after
　这两个词都可表示时间上“晚于”“在…之后”。作“晚于”解时两者常可互换使用。其区别在于：
1. after表示发生在某事或某时〔点，段〕之后，可以是紧接，也可以是不紧接；而beyond有发生于原定的或惯常的时间之后的意味。
2. 在美国， after可表示“已过几点”或“几点以后”；而beyond没有这种用法。
