基本要点
1. decide的基本意思是“决定”,指一人或多人对某一事实、行动、方针引起怀疑、动摇、争议,经过比较、思考、商议或研究后拿定主意,作出选择或判断,决定是与非、取与舍,含有不再疑惑、踌躇或争执的意味。引申可表示“肯定”“断定”。
2. decide用作不及物动词时,通常跟介词about或on〔upon〕。跟on〔upon〕连用时表示“就重大事情作出决定”或在多种情况〔事物〕中“作出选择”;与about连用时表示“就一般事情作出决定”。
3. decide用作及物动词表示“决定”“决心”时,可接名词、代词、动词不定式、带疑问词的动词不定式或虚拟的名词从句作宾语。decide不可以直接跟动名词,但decide on可以接动名词短语。

 这两个短语都有“决定”的意思。其区别在于:

4. make up one's mind指下决心做某事,不再改变。例如:

正误解析
 他决定再试一次。
 [误] He decided trying again.
 [正] He decided to try again.
 [析] decide后面可跟动词不定式作宾语,而不能跟动名词。
