| 释义 | bacteria Bremner 1980 and Evans 1957 remind us that this word is plural. Unlike some Latin-derived plurals, bacteria seems not to have much singular use. We do have such use in an indirect quotation printed in the New York Times in 1958 and in an instance taped from a radio interview with a cancer researcher in 1968. Our only written example is this: • But most of us would feel that this doesn't make the blue-green algae into a bacteria —letter to editor, Science News, 14 Jan. 1978 Bacteria is solidly plural and does not look to be in imminent danger of developing into a singular.
