| 释义 | image Image in its relatively recent sense of "popular or perceived conception, public impression" is called a fad word by Flesch 1964, Bernstein 1965, Fowler 1965, and Watt 1967, although Flesch thinks it seems to fill a need. The usage panel of Harper 1975, 1985 disapproves it. Phythian 1979 and Ebbitt & Ebbitt 1982 say it is established, and by implication so does Janis 1984, who merely explains it. Bernstein thought the fad would probably fade out, but that has not happened.
