释义	substandard The label substandard is widely used in usage books. In dictionaries—and in this book—it signifies no more than that the word or construction so labeled is normally used within a speech community by a group other than the one with prestige. This tends to suggest use by the least educated. Hence substandard contrasts with nonstandard (which see), which is applied to words and constructions that are not characteristic of the usage of educated native speakers but may be employed by them at times—for example, a strictly local term or a slang expression. In much writing about usage, however, substandard tends to mean only that the word or construction so labeled does not accord with the commentator's own notions of good English.
