词组 | take |
释义 | take 1. For a discussion of point of view in relation to the use of bring and take, see bring 1. 2. Take, a verb of Scandanavian origin, is a model strong verb with a past tense took and a past participle taken. Lamberts 1972 notes that there has long been some leveling of the past and past participle—going back at least to the 16th century. Mencken 1963 notes the same in his discussion of the vulgate, and taken as a past and took as a past participle are apparently not rare in the folk speech of many areas. • He hesitated a second and then he taken that whiskey glass and put it up to his face —William Wister Haines, High Tension, 1938 • ... leaving their half-took drinks behind —Rann O'Brien, At-Swim-Two-Birds, 1939 • Old Eagle had done already took off —William Faulkner, Saturday Evening Post, 5 Mar. 1955 In ordinary prose, of course, the standard forms are used. 3. At the end of the 19th century, the use of take with food and drink was considered less than refined by a number of American commentators; Ayres 1881, Long 1888, Compton 1898, and Vizetelly 1906 all aspersed it. But like many an issue, this one has died out and is forgotten by present-day writers. • ... crewmen can take their meals with their families —Sarah Ballard, Sports Illustrated, 10 Nov. 1986 • Yes, you can take tea with Edith Wharton, or at least with the actress who portrays her —Elle, June 1986 • ... only the former hustle industriously by taking power breakfasts —David Berlinski, Black Mischief, 1986 |
