词组 | visual |
释义 | visual Visual is sometimes used to mean "visible": • ... finding a visual equivalent for feelings which enrich experience —Michael Kitson, Encounter, February 1955 This sense of visual is not new. It was used in 1756 by Edmund Burke, who wrote of "visual beauty" and "perceptions and judgments on visual objects." Such usage is standard but uncommon. It is most likely to occur in contexts where the writer is distinguishing that which can be seen from that which is perceived by the other senses—contexts, in other words, where the emphasis is on the sense of vision rather than the specific object of vision. It does not occur in contexts such as "The horizon became visible as the fog cleared" or "His distress was clearly visible." |
