词组 | write-up |
释义 | write-up This noun originated among American journalists in the late 19th century. As its use became common, it attracted the disapproval of such American commentators as Krapp 1927, who considered it "colloquial, verging on low colloquial," and Weseen 1928, who described it as "journalistic cant." The common use continued, however, and the criticism did not. The only recent critic to take note of write-up is Shaw 1975, 1987, who allows that it is standard but considers it trite. Our evidence shows that write-up continues to be primarily a jounalist's word. It does not occur in highly formal writing. • ... a monthly newsletter containing brief write-ups on books of general interest —Judith Appelbaum, N. Y.
