【问】 《朗文英语正误词典》(安徽科技出版社，P.5;朗文出版公司、上海译文出版社，P. 5)提出了下列正误例句：

“× Where I come from，we are not accustomed to see so many things in the shops.√Where I come from，we are not accustomed to seeing so many things in the shops.

我从那里来。那里商店里商品琳琅满目，使我们眼花缭乱。”

并说明be accustomed只能后接V-ing。但是我在《韦氏辞典》中却查到了这样的例子：accustomed to paint their faces before battle

打仗前习惯于画花脸

对此我感到迷惑不解。

【答】 实际上，be accustomed除了常常接to+名词(或动名词)之外，有时还可以接带to的不定式。关于这一点，CGEL曾作过清楚而肯定的说明：

“Unlike accustomed，however，used does not occur with a following infinitive.”(P.1222)

(“但是，跟accustomed不同，used后面不能接不定式”)。并在P.1222上举出了下面的

例句：

We are accustomed to take tea on the terrace.[formal]

我们习惯于在房顶上喝茶。[正式用法]。

在其他著作中也可以找到这种用法：

1. Mrs. Babbitt was not accustomed to leave home during the winter. (Lewis).

巴比特夫人不习惯冬天出门。

2. She belongs to that class of people who are accustomed to have their own way.(Sinclair)

她属于习惯于走自己路的那个阶层。

3. Mrs. Duer was accustomed to sneer at carelessness. (Lewis)
