2)作为表示“提供”的及物动词(瞬时动作或延续状态均可),有两种搭配。中国人习惯的是 to provide something to for someone,不大习惯的是 to provide someone with something。前者例如:- The garden provides enough vegetables for the family.菜园给全家供应充足的蔬菜。
- The company provides sport facilities for its staff.公司给员工们提供体育设施。
- They are alleged to have provided arms to the rebels.他们被指称向叛军提供了武器。
后者例如: - We provided them with food and blankets.我们向他们提供了食品和毛毯。
- The state provides the orchestra with funds.国家给管弦乐队提供资金。
- Provide yourself with suitable clothing.随身带合适的衣服。
- I want to provide my children with a good education.我想让自己的孩子们得到良好的教育。
前一种搭配,可以只有直接宾语。 - The book provides a good introduction to maths.该书为数学入门提供了良好的指导。
- The new plant will provide 2,000 jobs.新工厂将提供两千个工作机会。
后一种搭配可以有被动语态,通常表示延续状态而非一时的被动事件。 - The plane is provided with eight emergency exits.该飞机备有八处紧急出口。
