1) “截至…之时为止”，谓语动词可以用一般现在时或现在或过去完成时。

• as of this writing截至本文执笔时为止
• As of March 2000, Japan's Internet users exceed 21 million, ranking second only to the US-reported 124 million.截至 2000 年 3 月为止，日本的互联网用户已经超过两千一百万，仅次于美国所宣布的一亿两千四百万。
• This version depicts the law as of November 27, 2002.本版本显示直到 2002 年 11 月 27 日为止的法律。

as of 表示“直到…为止”，同 until 意义不同。until 表示“延续到某一时间点就发生变化”，如果仍然不发生变化，保持原状，就不能用 until。as of 表示“直到某一时间点仍然保持原状不变”。

• As of last year, they still had some concerns to resolve.直到去年，他们仍然有一些问题需要解决。

又例如 2007 年 4 月美国弗吉尼亚理工学院枪击事件中，仍然有人从宽恕的角度出发对凶手赵承熙表示悼念，在他的祭坛上放了小石子，但又有人把小石子拿走了。After the first stone for Cho was removed, someone else came forward and placed a new one there. As of Thursday, the stone remained. (The Associated Press, April 26, 2007) 第一块祭奠赵的小石子被拿走了后，又有人前来放上了一块新的。这块小石子直到星期四还在那里。如果谓语动词是被否定的，则 as of 也与 until 不同，并不表示到了该时间点就发生了从否定变为肯定的变化，而是表示这个否定状态到了该时间点仍然保持，后来如何则不交代。

• As of Saturday, the governor still had not declared a state of emergency. 直到星期六，州长仍然没有宣布紧急状态（如果说 The governor did not declared a state of emergency until Saturday，就是星期六宣布了紧急状态）。

2) as of 本来是个复合介词，如果后面加上 yet，成为 as of yet，就成为一个副词短语，意思是“截至现在为止”。如果谓语动词（通常用现在完成时）是被否定的，则 as of yet 也与 until now 不同，并不表示现在刚刚发生了从否定变为肯定的变化，而是表示这个否定状态到了现在仍然保持，今后如何则不交代。

• As of yet, no timetable has been set for construction.直到现在为止，还没有定下兴建的时间表。

3) as of 后面不一定是个截止日期，也可以是指“按照（迄今为止的资讯）”。

• As of the most recent filings with the state Board of Elections...按照已经报请州选举委员会备案的最新资料…

4) “（某项措施）自…起（实施）”。

• Accordingly, as of January 31st, 2006, Internet Explorer for the Mac is no longer available for download from Microsoft.因此，自 2006 年 1 月 31 日起，麦金塔电脑上的 Internet Explorer 再也不能用来下载微软。
• The border, effectively closed since 1981, will be opened as of January 1.从 1981 年起就关闭了的边境，将自 1 月 1 日起开放。

这个用法，也可以用于日常语言。

• As of next week I'll be working at home.从下周起，我就在家里工作了。
• Extraterrestrial life. As of today, the most popular modern myth of all time was no longer a myth. (Dan Brown, Deception Point, p.130)地球之外有生物。从今天起，当代历来最流行的神话，已经不再是神话了。

5) as of 不光是可以指“到何时为止”或“从何时起”这两种相反的与时段有关的时间点，而且还可以指同时段无关的时间点，表示“很快在某时即将”如何。

• As of Monday I will talk to him about it.礼拜一我就同他谈这件事。

但是，as of 还是指预料同说话时有一些距离的将来。如果是眼前马上要做的事，用 as of + 时间点就不很妥当。

• Right now (*As of now) I will cross the street.我现在马上就过街去。

同样，as of 作“从何时起开始一段时段”时，这个起点也预料同说话时有一些距离，如果是立刻起算，也最好不要用 as of。

• From now on (*As of now), I shall always refuse such offers.从现在起，凡是这样的提议，我都一律拒绝。
