■ conscientious, conscious 与 consent

1) conscientious 是“认真”、“勤奋”的意思。

• She was her usual conscientious self.她仍然像平常一样认真。
• He'd been doing his job conscientiously for many years.他已经勤奋工作了多年。
• Their son is a conscientious student.他们的儿子是个用功的学生。

西方社会有些出于宗教、道德或哲学原因拒绝服兵役的人，称为 conscientious objector，有些国家的法律承认他们拒绝服兵役的权利，但规定要他们从事非战斗的公益劳役作为代替。

2) conscious 是“有意识”的意思，但除了 become conscious（恢复知觉，醒过来）以及前面加上 politically 或 socially 表示“有政治意识”或“有社会意识”，或是前面加上名词组成复合形容词（如 protocol-conscious“讲究礼仪的”、faceconscious“讲究面子的”、clothes-conscious“讲究衣着的”、fashion-conscious“讲究时髦的”、age-conscious “很在乎年龄的”、health-conscious “注意养生的”）之外，通常后面要加上 of...或 that... 作为补充说明；conscious of 是“意识到”某事物（某事物如果是句子则用 conscious that...）。

• She became conscious of Rudolph looking at her.她觉察到了鲁道夫正在注视着她。
• I was conscious that he had changed his tactics.我觉察到他改变了策略。

3) consent 同上面两个单词没有任何关系，是“同意”、“答应”的意思。

• She had threatened to marry without her parents' consent.她曾经扬言父母不同意也结婚。
• It is a splendid idea. I give my consent.这是个了不起的主意。我表示同意。

consent 也可以作为动词（后面加 to inf. 或 to something），也是“同意”的意思。

• Would you consent to work for us?你同意为我们工作吗？
• He consented to the removal of the flags.他同意了把旗挪开。
