词组 | final |
释义 | final Phythian 1979, Partridge 1942, Einstein 1985, Ayres 1881, and Copperud 1970, 1980 all carry brief warnings that final used in combination with completion (the first four), ending, upshot (Phythian and Partridge), and culmination (Copperud) is redundant. That our files—which are fairly wide-ranging—contain no examples of these combinations suggests that the problem does not arise often. When final is used with such words, or with end, consumer, destination, outcome, it is merely intended to reinforce the notion of finality. See redundancy. |
