词组 hassle
释义 hassle
 1. Hassle is not a colloquial term, or perhaps we should say it is not just a colloquial term. A good portion of the evidence we have collected for hassle comes from quoted speech, but over half of our evidence is from running text in newspaper and magazine articles. The noun is more common than the verb and appears proportionately more often in ordinary prose. However, neither the noun nor the verb is used in elevated or literary prose. Here is a sampling of citations:
Car pooling is seen by most people as a hassle — Martin Nemirow, The Washingtonian, October 1973
... who are too blasé to hassle him —People, 5 Apr. 1976
... few Belgians think the political hassle will go so far —David R. Francis, Christian Science Monitor, 17 Apr. 1980
... drugs are as much a solace and joy for the police as they are for those they hassle —Gore Vidal, quoted in Rolling Stone, 15 May 1980
... frustrated by hassles over leaks to the press — Jerry Kirshenbaum, Sports Illustrated, 25 Oct. 1982
It's a place where a face can go and not be hassled — John Chancellor, quoted in Town & Country, January 1983
Mr. Watt describes his controversial tenure as an unequaled "success story" despite "tremendous hassle and abuse" —Andy Pasztor, Wall Street Jour., 18 Feb. 1983
 2. The spelling hasse! is a variant of hassle but is quite rare these days. Its heyday was in the early 1950s, when the word usually referred to a heated argument or a fight, but even then hassle was more common.
