It can mean "exactly" ("just right"), "very recently" ("someone just called"), "barely" ("just in time"), "immediately" ("just west of here"), "only" ("just a reminder"), "very" ("just wonderful"), and "possibly" ("it just might work"). Handbooks on writing occasionally cite one or more of these senses as a colloquialism (the "very" sense, in particular, has often been singled out), but all of them occur commonly in writing that is not unusually lofty in subject matter or tone.
