All of the uses of partake in the above illustrations are old, well-established, and standard. Some critics simply consider partake inherently "overformal," "stilted," "bookish," or the like. Certainly a phrase like "partake of liquid refreshment" for "have a drink" would seem to merit those epithets, but the uses above do not strike us in the same way. |
