【问】 (1) He's no more your friend than I'm your mother.
 (2) I have no more friends than you have.
 根据英语著作对no more... than的解释，句(1)应当释为：“他不是你的朋友，就象我不是你的母亲一样。”请问：句(2)是否可以译为：“我没有朋友，就象你没有朋友一样。”?
 【答】 在象句(1)那类句子里，more是副词。从表面上看，这种句型表示不同等的比较，实质上却是表示等同关系(用人们熟悉的事物去比喻不熟悉的事物);另外，than后面的从句在形式上是肯定的，但在意义上却是否定的。例如：
 1. A fool can no more see his own folly than he can see his ears.
 蠢人不能自知其蠢，就象不能自见其耳一样。
 2. He's no more fit to be a minister than a school boy would be.
 他不适于当部长，就象一个小学生不适于当部长一样。
 3. Rachel is no more courageous than Saul(is)，(CGEL)

 但这并不是说，当more作限定词或名词短语的中心词时，no more...than总是具有这
 里所说的第二种含义(如例(2))。应当注意，当more修饰可分等级的名词时，no more...than就会具有本条所说的第一种含义(如例(1))：
 1. She is no more a fool than you are.
 她不是傻瓜，就如同你不是傻瓜一样。
 2. They are no more scholars than my baby(is).
