【问】 什么叫保留宾语?

【答】 有些动词，例如，give，bring，buy，hand，send，pass，offer，ask，owe，teach，show，pay等，要求两个宾语(两个直接宾语或一个直接宾语加上一个间接宾语)。当其中一个宾语变为被动句主语时，另一个宾语在被动句中仍然保留下来。这个保留下来的宾语，叫做保留宾语。

1. She gave George the money.(George was given the money. The money was givenGeorge.)

2. She asked me several questions.(I was asked several questions. Several questions wereasked me.)(AEG)

请注意下列实例中的保留宾语：

1. A post in the Cabinet was offered him. (CEG)

有人建议他在内阁里任职。

2. He was offered a post in the Cabinet.(同上)

他被邀请在内阁里任职。

3. Jack was sent a copy of the letter. (CGEL)

有人给杰克寄去了信的复印件。

4. A copy of the letter was sent Jack. (同上)

信的复印件寄给了杰克。

5. His mother was told everything. (UG)

有人把一切事情都告诉他妈妈了。
