　到达　make an appearance
　〔说明〕 arrive on〔upon〕不用于被动结构。
　They arrived on the horse-court at two.　两点钟时他们到达跑马场。

 ♣ arrive at, arrive in
　arrive at　和arrive in都是“到达”的意思。其区别是：
1. 一般说arrive at往往指到达较小的地方，而arrive in指到达较大的地方。例如：

　但这一点并不是绝对的，用at还是用in完全取决于说话人的感觉，如把这个地点看作是一个点就用at;反之如看成一个范围就用in. 当然，有些固定搭配还是不能取意替换的。
2. arrive at常表示“到达”短期逗留之处；而arrive in常表示“到达”长久居住之处或预期的目的地。例如：

 ♣ arrive, get to
　这两个词都含有“到达”的意思。其区别是：arrive用于较正式的场合；而get to是通俗用词。例如：

　arrive　和come都表示“到达”，但arrive强调对于目标的到达，而come则不强调目标。

1. 我一个月前到这里。
　［误］ I have arrived here for a month.
　［正］ I arrived here a month ago.
　［析］ arrive是瞬间动词，不表示持续动作，不可与表示一段时间的状语搭配。
2. 我下午5点钟到家。
　［误］ I arrived at home at five in the afternoon.
　［正］ I arrived home at five in the afternoon.
　［析］ 在表示“到家”时，一般不说arrive at home，而说arrive home. home在这里是副词。

　arrive　是非延续性动词，一般不用于进行体，但在当代英语中，当arrive的语法是复数形式的名词时，为了表示“陆续到来”这个意思， arrive可用于进行体。例如：
　More and more foreigners are arriving for the business of joint ventures.　越来越多的外国人纷至沓来，参与合资企业。
